Symbiosis- Lifecyle Paintings

Caligo memnon is a large, tropical butterfly found in secondary forests and rainforests from Mexico down to the Amazon in South America. Butterflies are typically diurnal (active in the daytime), but Owl Butterflies are crepuscular (most active at twilight), so during the day, you are most likely to see them resting. The caterpillars feed on the banana tree. It gets its name from the large eyespot that look like an owl to scare off would be predators. It is popular in butterfly houses throughout the USA.
